Hi Dwyer,

Here's your weekly email of things I'm reading, listening to, thinking about, buying, or just plain paying attention to. I hope you get something out of this, but if you don't and you decide to unsubscribe, I'll buy you a coffee for wasting your time.

Yep, I'm serious, just unsubscribe and I'll send you a gift card for a free coffee.

Article I'm Thinking About: "Put Your Preschooler In Front of a TV"

Tablets are constant companions for our littles nowadays it seems. This article, by author Sophie Brickman, makes a compelling argument for placing our kiddos in front of a formerly villainized appliance, The TV. The premise here isn't that the programming is necessarily better for your child, but that the act of watching TV vs. a tablet or other device, and in particular watching TOGETHER with your child, is more socially and cognitively developmental.

Book I'm Reading: "SuperCoach" by Michael Neill

Just when I thought I'd read ALL the books that had "coach" in the title, Wayne Herring, fellow coach, and friend, proved me wrong when he turned me on to this 16-year-old book. I probably ignored it at first because of the title—I didn't want to be a "Super Coach." Alas, Wayne argued that it's actually not about coaching at all. It's about using 10 key insights to get what you want from life.

One of my favorite quotes from the book (and Wayne):

"You can have anything you want..as long as you REALLY want it."

Podcast You Need to Listen To: Tim Ferriss interviews Ramit Sethi

Ramit Sethi wrote a great book with a horrible title a few years back and I bought it despite its cover. The title, "I Will Teach You to be Rich," I thought (and still think) was a cheap trick of a book name. Recently, someone recommended it and said, "That's not the kind of "rich" he's talking about in the book." I bought it with some skepticism—and sure enough, loved it. It wasn't about "old school thinking" in terms of money, rather, a new way to look at what it takes to be "rich" and how to organize your life around THAT instead of traditional definitions. In this podcast interview, Tim and Ramit talk about redefining "rich" and what it takes to create a healthy relationship around money with your spouse or partner. Ramit's new podcast is a great listen too (with the same cheap trick of a name).

Questions You Might Be Able To Help Me Answer

I've got a lot of questions about life, and I thought that maybe I'd post a few here and see if anybody out there can help me answer some of them.

If you think you can help, just hit reply and give me your answers:

  1. Why is gas so expensive right now?
  2. Why does it seem like there's a shortage of available workers in certain job sectors?
  3. Why do people watch the Olympics?
  4. Why do people dig in so hard to their own opinions while discounting (even hating) others for theirs?
  5. Is there a truly unbiased mainstream media outlet? Does there need to be?
  6. Why does everyone hate the Patriots?
  7. Is medicine actually helping us feel better?
  8. Why do we value hard work?
  9. Why isn't the sport of cricket more popular?
  10. Was disco always destined to be horrible? Was it made that way on purpose?
